Online video streaming platform Netflix has acquired the essential rights needed for actor Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut “The Lost Daughter”. In a press release, Netflix has said that this deal has been negotiated with Endeavour Content and this right will cover the US and the remaining territories as well.
As this film was premiered at Venice Film Festival, the acquisition for this film has come ahead from the films world premiere itself. This film is actually based on a novel with the same name written by Italian author Elena Ferrante in 2006.
This movie has stars such as Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Mescal, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ed Harris and Dagmara Dominczyk. The movie is about a character named Leda who is from Colman and the entire movie traces the life of this person. By profession, Leda is a college professor who has gone on a seaside vacation. During her vacation, while relaxing on the beach she has become obsessed with a young woman named Nina and her young daughter as she was noticing them on the beach.
Nina and her daughter’s playful relationship have forced her to reflect upon the trauma about her own motherhood which she confronted in the movie. Gyllenhaal has already adapted the screenplay of this movie and also produced the feature film with Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren for Pie Films, Charles Dorfman for Samuel Marshall Films and Endeavor Content.
