Netflix as a Learning Platform for Students - A Quirky Change

TV has always been a wonderful platform for learning new cultures and languages. In the pandemic ridden world which has restricted people to their homes, streaming platforms like Netflix have made special shows for students who wish to learn through watching.

Almost all the streaming platforms have started streaming educational content through the TV now. Netflix alone, which had only less than five percent of its overall time offered for documentaries, now offers almost 25% of its time for documentaries. Students whose learning has been shifted completely onto an online platform after the pandemic, watch the documentaries provided by Netflix as a learning activity. It is hence the section that is developing rapidly today.

Mitch Lowe, co-founding executive of Netflix, mentioned that during the pandemic Netflix has evolved according to the needs of its viewers. Lowe also added that the way we are approach work, education and leisure has undergone tremendous change. There are many more educational sites that have grown and developed during this pandemic providing the students more places to learn online each day.

The speakers at the Abrahamic Business Circle, like Ahmed Elmetwally, CEO and general manager at the Private Office of Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Joy Malka Rothenberg, an advisory board member, opined that e-learning has become a necessity and it is high time that they have started educating themselves of its possibilities. Dr Raphael Nagel, founder and chairman of The Abrahamic Business Circle, considers e-learning as a tool for providing equal learning opportunities.

The new situation and the prominence given for e-learning have transformed Netflix into a major player in the field of online education. Its content designed specifically for the students has only enhanced student’s learning ability and also their enthusiasm towards learning.

What we learn and how we utilised the knowledge matters more than how we learn, according to Lowe. Hence Netflix needs to understand as a positive change for the Students and its share in enhancing the learning process cannot be ignored.
