How much do you know about the menstrual cycle and its working? The Menstrual Hygiene marks the beginning of the campaign by Kimberly-Clark’s Kotex on menstruation and menstrual hygiene.
Kotex, the feminine hygiene brand, has partnered with Simone Giertz, an inventor who builds creative machines, to bring out videos to educate the public on menstruation and menstrual habits.
Through the campaign, Kotex is trying to fight against the stigma that exists around periods even in 2021. With Simone Giertz’s humorous yet educating videos they try to empower women to fight against the shame and false beliefs that have always been around periods. The videos try to explain what menstruation is and how our system works during the periods. Giertz has invented the “menstruation machine” that explains menstruation, and the “period the cramp machine” that explains period cramps to educate people on the scientific facts regarding periods. These videos, made as part of Kotex’s “She Can Initiative”, are not very graphic but attract attention through their simple, humorous yet educational content.
According to Inger Tanderup, group creative director at Ogilvy, such video contents are essential to tackle the false and unscientific believes about periods. educating everyone about menstruation empowers women in the long run.
Giertz used the power of STEM to engage and reach a broader audience with a series of videos that explain the menstrual cycle in straightforward English with a dash of humour, thanks to Google’s sponsorship.
The videos are part of the Kotex brand’s ‘She Can Initiative,’ which aims to eliminate overt or even subconscious beliefs that women’s biology holds them back by challenging the secrecy, shame, and stigma surrounding periods. The videos will be released on May 28th, which is Menstrual Hygiene Day.
‘The Menstrual Machine’ and ‘The Period Cramp Machine,’ created in collaboration with Ogilvy and Google, are another way Kotex is challenging period preconceptions and advocating for a better future.
