Tech Tributes of the Week – Ft Amazon

  • Amazon is planning to make Sidewalk available on Echo devices from June 8th onwards. Amazon had launched Sidewalk, which is a shared network system, in September 2019.

A small share of your network is used to run the Echo devices, Ring Security Cameras and lights and Tile Bluetooth trackers. The Sidewalk pools a small share of the network from neighbouring devices to provide better performance of the Amazon devices even outside the front door. This also helps the devices to stay connected in an efficient manner.

The devices that are connected to the Sidewalk like the Ring smart lights, pet locators and smart locks, will be able to work at longer distances as they would never get disconnected from the network.

The Sidewalk is protected with several layers of encryption and hence, personal information would not be compromised, according to Amazon’s official declaration. Sidewalk has an automatic opt-in option. But Amazon has provided the users of Alexa an opt-out option where they could opt not to share their network to connect with other Amazon devices.
