Law students in the country have a golden opportunity to be part of the new initiative from Facebook called the Facebook India Tech Scholars program (FITS). The program, with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. as its knowledge partner, is open for 8 law students from leading law schools in India in its first phase. The students selected would have an opportunity to research topics connected with technology law and policy. They would be mentored by a body of experts on a particular research project.
It would be a unique opportunity for those who wish to establish themselves in the area of technology law and policy as it provides a chance to be part of an independent research project in the same area. This program will equip the students to take clear-headed decisions in the future during any discussions on technology law and policy. It is especially important in India due to the increasing changes that are being made to the technology law and policy recently by the authorities.
The Centre for Internet and Society, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace India, the Observer Research Foundation, and the Software Freedom Law Center are the mentoring institutions for the first phase of the FITS program. An Expert Committee with experienced persons will work as the advisory committee during the full length of the programme.
The first phase of the FITS programme is open for the 4th and 5th year students from the WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, the National Law University, Delhi and the National Law University, Jodhpur. The applications can be sent till June 20 th and the programme begins in the summer 2021 lasting for a period of 9 months.
The programme will provide opportunities for more students in the coming years.
