According to a survey done by the website Datareportal, in the beginning of the year 2021, there were some 521 million new users in social media. According to the survey 3/4th of the population in the world use some or the other type of social media. The use of smartphones, internet and social media has almost eliminated all the barriers between borders, cultures, age and statues.
Staying active in social media means that you are active in life. If you have disappeared from social media people will think that you might have disappeared from life. Posting updates in social media is our regular habits. If our friends do not see us in social media for a while they will be concerned about if we are doing all right or not.
But in this world, there are also the remaining 1/4th population, who kept them far away from social media. We can call them the social media hermits. These hermits kept themselves far away from social media and enjoy their private life to the fullest. When the whole world is going crazy to update all their activities in social media, these hermits live a filter-free life.
Let’s look at the example of Ramesh Venkataraman who is a London based private equity investor. He confessed his story about how he had kept himself private when the whole UK was hooked by the innovation of Facebook. He stated that he was only amused by the way that through Facebook people are getting to see their long-lost school and college friends. But according to Ramesh, he does not need Facebook if he wants to be in touch with his friends. Because the friends who are important to him are already there in his life.
