Amazon’s New Investment Is Sound - Redefine Technology

Amazon Music has signed a content deal with Metropolis Studios’ new 3D audio facility in West London, which will serve as the streaming service’s UK headquarters for immersive mixing. On the studio’s architecture and specification, as well as to assist its creative mix workflow, Metropolis collaborated with immersive content expert Sonosphere.

With the studio’s full immersive audio monitoring built to adapt to all surround formats, including Dolby Atmos, loudspeakers have been mounted around the space at 30 degrees separation from each other.
The positioning of the speakers helps to create 360-degree spatial audio, in which sounds appear to come from their true location in space, giving the listener the sensation of being surrounded by the music. The Amazons, Emma McGrath, Dumbfounded, James Reid, and Jules Aurora are among the artists whose immersive mixes will be released as part of the Amazon Music agreement.

With the initial mixes accessible to listeners this summer, the relationship between Metropolis and Amazon Music reflects a continuous investment in immersive sound and a growing offering to artists.Customers can listen to songs blended in 3D Audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and Sony 360RA on Amazon Music.

It’s a significant addition to the rapidly growing immersive audio ecosystem, which Metropolis is delighted to join and lead, making it easier for recording artists and others to explore the untapped possibilities of 3D audio. The studio’s commercial potential is enormous, and what better way to launch it than with a partner like Amazon Music
