Cooler Screens is a startup that has digital displays instead of normal refrigerator doors. It shoes the digital image of products along with ads. Cooler Screens have succeeded in its initial testing in Chicago and a few other cities and is being officially launched across the United States. The company is getting ready to equip 100+ stores with Cooler Screens in prominent cities in the US within a few weeks.
The cooler screens have already been piloted in 50 Walgreens. Walmart, Kroger and CVS are among its other clients. The company hopes that this move to expand its business would enable them to surpass foot traffic, the number of customers that enter every store, by almost 50 million.
Arsen Avakian, the co-founder and CEO of Cooler Screens mentions that with this nationwide expansion in the retail market they are finally able to provide their brands with the scale and reach they were demanding.
The total valuation of Cooler Screens had become half a billion dollars in the fall of 2020 as they had raised almost eighty million dollars from Verizon Ventures and Microsoft’s M12 among other investors. This has enabled their nationwide expansion to happen smoothly. Their tie-up with Walgreens would also help in bringing the screens to almost 2500 location in the US.
Their expansion was delayed by the pandemic as they were not able to meet the requirements. But the pandemic has only increased the popularity of existing Cooler Screens as more people is shopping earlier this time and Walgreens and CVS has been locations for people who come to get vaccinated. The Screens that were installed in drug stores found popularity whereas the food services and restaurants were shut down causing the use of the screen to go down.
The Cooler Screens are about to expand to grocery and convenience stores. They are also planning to develop software for the medicine aisle also. This could considerably increase the company’s turnout. Cooler Screens are going to become more important in the future as people are trying to replace their in-store experience using screens similar to Cooler Screens.
