‘Medicines From the Sky’: Flipkart to Join Hands with Telangana Govt in its Pilot Project

Flipkart announced that it would be aided by the Telangana government in developing and implementing its Medicines from the Sky project. The Project aims to deliver medical supplies to people in remote areas using drones.

Flipkart mentioned that they would make use of their supply chain that is well equipped with technology to use drones and supply medicines. Flipkart aims to utilise the technology that they have developed for enhancing their delivery chains like shipment routing, geo-mapping, and location track and trace. These technologies could also be used to deliver vaccines and medicines to an area that cannot be quickly accessed via road by conduction Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS).

Rajneesh Kumar said that Flipkart’s decision to make use of their latest technologies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of common people is a significant move by the e-commerce giant. Pandemic has put to test the technological developments of all the governments and companies. the partnership with the Telangana government has proved this, according to him. Rajneesh Kumar is the Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart.

For almost 6 days the project will be under test. They will try to deliver thousands of vaccines while maintaining the safety parameters.

Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana’s Principal Secretary IT and I&C, mentioned that this project is the first of its kind in the country and that the government is happy to collaborate with Flipkart. He believes that this initiative would guide many future projects of similar nature.

Medicines from the Sky is a project initiated by the World Economic Forum and Healthnet Global Ltd. The project also specifies the need for drone deliveries and a method to better evaluate proposals. Telangana government has adopted this method and is trying to integrate it into the supply chain of state healthcare.

Flipkart, an Indian e-commerce company said that it was proud to be part of this pilot project which could eventually enhance the delivery chains and facilities not only during a health emergency but also during disasters.
