Pepsi through its new campaign informs people that it is a better match for Burgers available at Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Burger King than Coca-Cola. However, people would find it hard to test it as only Coca-cola is on sale at most of the burger outlets due to their exclusive contracts with them.
Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s VP of marketing said that Pepsi undoubtedly goes with almost all the brands of burgers. Pepsi had commissioned a few tasting studies done by an independent party and also a panel of experts. The independent team based in Los Angeles organised a taste drive in which almost 60% of participants preferred Pepsi to Coca-Cola.
A team of taste experts also concluded that Pepsi intensifies the taste of burgers than Coke. Both the studies were focused mainly on brands like Big Mac, Whopper and Dave’s Single.
Kaplan also notes the exclusive contracts that companies like McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s have with Coca-cola which has reduced the opportunity of people to taste Pepsi with burgers even if they wish to.
Joints like Applebee’s, Dairy Queen, IHOP and Buffalo Wild Wings have made Pepsi available to the customers, says Kaplan.
Pepsi is working with Alma and VaynerMedia to campaign this news to its customers. They are planning to utilise digital platforms.
It has also hired origami artists to create Pepsi’s logo from the wrappers of McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s to show that they have always been in the picture though not in the menu.
People who choose to drink Pepsi with burger can upload their pictures as proof on Facebook or Instagram under the #BetterWithPepsi ad and they can get a rebate through Venmo or Paypal or a digital gift card worth up to $3.49 on the National Hamburger Day.
Pepsi is also distributing free drinks for people so that they could post their pictures on social media with the hashtag #BetterWithPepsi.
