The government has announced the launch of e-RUPI to secure a leak-proof delivery of welfare services. e-RUPI is an electronic voucher-based digital payment system. This platform is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment. It is also a QR code or SMS string-based e-Voucher and this will be delivered to the mobile of the user. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that this e-RUPI voucher will take a major role in strengthening DBT scheme. PM Modi has also said that e-RUPI vouchers can also be used as an alternative to cash if some organizations are willing to help someone in their medical treatment or education or in anything else.
E-Rupi will also benefit small-ticket person-specific and purpose-specific payments via digital vouchers. People can produce these vouchers by the government or corporates via banking partners. The National Payments Corporation of India, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Health Authority has developed the person-specific and purpose-specific payments system platform.
This E-Rupi will be mainly used for delivering services under schemes meant for distributing drugs and nutritional support under Mother and Child welfare schemes, TB eradication programs, drugs & diagnostics under schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, fertilizer subsidies and many more. Private sectors can also be benefited from these digital vouchers to secure its employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programs.
The Centre has also said in an earlier statement that the users can use this seamless one-time payment mechanism and this will also redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access.
First the corporate or government will share the details of specific persons and the purpose for which payments are needed with the partner banks and then the transactions will be made.
