Though we know that Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad are the main hubs of entrepreneurship in India. But now startups are moving beyond these hubs. Jaipur is also an important city in India’s startup ecosystem. This city has given us so many successful startups like CarDekho, MagicPin and CredR.
There are a lot of other examples such as Findability Sciences which is a deep-tech artificial intelligence startup backed by Softbank. This startup is located in Maharashtra. Another good example is DeHaat, which is a Patna-based online marketplace for farmers.
A digital transformation expert and a startup advisor, Jaspreet Bindra has commented that there are many important factors to note behind the success of these small-town startups. These entrepreneurs are driven by their talent, ambition and market access. He has also added that in places like Aurangabad or Udupi, there are so many good engineering colleges to bring out talent. Also, in these small towns, the cost to set up a business is cheaper than in Bangalore or NCR or Mumbai.
Many of these startups remain on the grassroots level for a few years to understand the business correctly. The founders of these startups also remain in their native place and run their businesses globally. For example, Samar Singla’s mobility startup Jugnoo, which offers taxi dispatch software for cab and auto drivers all over the country and also in countries such as Singapore, Middle East and Europe, all from Samar’s hometown.
As the small cities are having a rapid growth in terms of everything, small cities like Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kollam have got a place Economist Intelligence Unit or EIU in 2020 as one of the top 10 world’s fastest-growing cities.
