Supporting Google’s Battle against Cyberattacks & Ransomware

As cyberattacks by criminals and nation-state is becoming efficient, Google finds time to hunt down more than 100 phishing attempts every day. It has also been able to protect the scans done using over 100 billion apps, from malware and other issues in a day.

The world has witnessed the most number of cyber attacks on government systems, private companies and individuals across the globe in the past 6 months. Google mentions security as the foundation of its brand and they have enables teams like Project Zero to tackle the security issues and make the internet a safe space. 

In the US, the White House Cybersecurity Executive Order is being supported by Google to make America’s defence against cyber-attacks stronger. Google supports modernising the computing systems and making security simple and strong to make cyberspace a safer space.

Restrictions on interoperability and data portability can make the system prone to attacks as seen with SolarWinds and Microsoft Exchange. Propriety systems can endanger the systems making it easier for cybercriminals to crawl into it easily. Google emphasizes securing the software supply chain. Google has developed technology of higher standards that has enhanced the coherence and reliability of software.

The US Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have decided to categorise ransom attacks as terror attacks as such cyber crimes are increasingly becoming common and untraceable in the US.

JBS USA, the major meat producer, had been forced to close down many of its branches across the world completely due to a cyber-attack recently. The ransom demand seems to have come from a criminal organization based in Russia.

Colonial Pipeline had faced a similar cyberattack involving ransom demand, causing it to shut down many of its fuel pipelines for several days.

Sharing information on the cyberattacks and threats faced by the private and public sector companies would enable Google to secure the internet space. Prompt information about cyber threats and ransomware will enable Google to develop extensive tools to cope with attacks. Proper support and work on the part of the industry will aid Google in deciding how to invest in next-generation tools for security.
