Women Making Cards for Her Husband in Prison, Now Minting

Danielle Macias is the owner of True Blue Stationery and she has shared with us the story behind the opening of her stationery shop. Her husband José has been imprisoned for 25-years at Kern Valley State Prison, in California. She was supporting her husband at this time and she used to write him love letters regularly by decorating the envelopes and sheets of paper with simple designs. One day one of her friends asked Danielle where she used to get prison-specific pieces of stationery and she told her that she made this.

Danielle has said that she had never thought that she would be able to develop a whole business with her simple cards. But her business took a fly easily as her customer grow up to 2 million. Most of Danielle’s customers are wives of those men who have been incarnated to several prisons. The wives want to get really creative when it comes to making their husbands feel loved and supported.

Danielle has always tried to make her cards with her consumers in mind. These are also not normal cards which you will find anywhere. In one card there are hands enclosed in handcuffs that form the shape of a heart. In another card, there was written massages like “ANOTHER DAY DOWN.” Other messages like “I’ll never ghost you baby. You’ll always be my boo” and “All I wished for this year was for it to be our year. I prayed for a miracle. I wished for good news. All I wanted was for you to be home.”

Danielle’s story has become an inspiration for many people. Her husband has also been released from prison and he is working as a landscaper now. Danielle is also thinking about quitting her day job and making True Blue Stationery her full-time gig.
